CHALLENGE #7

STORAGE LIMITATIONS

How reliable is your storage system?

Data management and data loss are big issues in today’s business. Storage is one of those small details that can cause big problems. Many organizations are not prepared for information growth. Organizations tend to wait until their capacity is maxed out before an upgrade is enacted. This reactive approach often leads to unexpected data loss and costly downtime that can last anywhere from days to weeks.

In today’s “always on” world where seconds of down time can equate

to millions of dollars in losses, storage systems need to perform.

– Jason Borders, Solutions Architect, i-Tech Support

How can you stay ahead of the game?

Staying on top of storage limitations is vital to preventing issues. Regular network assessments can help you gauge current capacities and predict upcoming storage needs. Technology firms like i-Tech Support offer in-depth assessments that measure network and storage issues.

If your current solution is not meeting your needs, consider a more advanced solution, such as a Storage Virtual Machines (SVM). SVMs are better investment because they allow growth and flexibility. They take the concept of virtualizing a server further by virtualizing volumes on a storage area network (SAN).

An SVM allows you to move volumes of information not just from one head on a SAN to another but also across physical controllers. In addition, workloads can be moved across controllers within a cluster just as easily as moving a virtual server between physical servers.  If a workload needs more resources, the system allows movement from slower spinning disks to flash storage almost seamlessly. With true block level de-duplication, this system can return a minimum of 50% of your used storage in a virtualized environment without sacrificing performance.

A better investment

Storage solutions like SVMs are a better investment. Not only do they support heavy business demands, but they are flexible enough to grow with your company.  This solution reduces downtime and ensures applications are always performing.
