Why is Cisco Technology More Expensive?

Why is Cisco technology more expensive than other brands?

by Daniel Stockman, i-Tech Support, Inc

Simply because they are better than their competitors, and hence, the price is worth the benefits gained.

Of all the products Cisco offers, 90% of them are the topmost choices in their respective industries, be it data centers, collaboration or networking. Plus, Cisco offers complete, comprehensive and scalable solutions that can be integrated in the existing network, and added to later on. Their competitors, however, offer mostly standalone products that work singly, instead of as comprehensive whole.

Cisco refreshes their products and solutions with new, innovative advancements, frequently. Their solutions allow businesses to keep up with the technological pace, increase productivity, improve efficiency and achieve rapid growth.

Considering Cisco’s switching line, they are the dominant vendors in terms of both shipping and revenues.  Though the prices may be on a higher side, the quality and features of the products justify the rates at which they are sold.

A research suggests that Cisco is not that costly when compared to other popular competitors.  If price is considered per port basis, then Cisco is not even the most expensive, and instead, takes the third place. Cisco lower end gear is definitely pricey. So for instance, if you want a fixed configuration box like a server rack or stackable wiring closet switch, Cisco prices do top the list. But again, if quality is what you want, then you should stick to Cisco. Cisco takes the fifth place for per port prices in the modular switching category, and the third place if high-end features are considered.

In today’s era, your business needs a networking platform that is technologically innovative, allowing you to deliver critical services. Cisco can provide you with an end-to-end solution that is connected through a common infrastructure and control software, operating as a cohesive entity.

Reliability

Cisco range of products is extremely reliable. Still if you experience any issues, they will diagnose and fix it. Their 24/7 customer support covers basic support, advanced help and even hardware replacement.

Manageability

When switches are managed, you get to enjoy enhanced diagnostics. This means your engineers can isolate network issues in a really short time, as compared to other devices.  Other features include utilization tracking and BGP enabled non-stop connectivity, which separate Cisco from the rest.

Scalability

Cisco offers scalable solutions fit for small businesses, looking for reliable managed switches or multinational corporations that want a secure, wireless network, layered switches, firewalls, intrusion detection and other components that are all managed centrally through a single software utility.

Variety

Cisco offers a huge range of products that cover switches, routes, firewalls, VoIP, collaboration and unified communication tools.

Security

Cyber crime is a global threat that can cost your business a significant amount of money. With Cisco solutions, you can secure your network propelrly, enjoying protection against Trojans, worms and other malware.  Features like firewall, intrusion detection and access control are also offered.

TCO

Cisco IT solutions provide a life cycle engagement which covers design, deployment and operation.  The net result is a decrease in total costs of operation and reduced service delivery times.
